WAKAN Shamanic Community

rule bar

Wakan is a spiritually-based, non-profit organization and community predicated on the belief that all life is sacred. (Read toms' story of how Wakan started in his "Starting a Spiritual Shamanic Community" article.)

OUR VISION:

Wakan helps people remember what is sacred to their highest awareness and integrate it into all aspects of their lives.

OUR MISSION:

Wakan provides educational and experiential practices, workshops and retreats that help people rediscover their interconnectedness to all of life and their unique contribution to the world through the study of shamanic wisdom ways of indigenous spirituality and shamanic traditions.

OUR PRACTICE:

Wakan uses indigenous, earth-based wisdom ways to help participants remember, explore, nurture and empower the core truth that we are all sacred beings, living together in an interconnected web of relationships in which each one of us has a sacred purpose and gift in being here. We offer an active supportive community to help members access the deep wisdom, love and creativity that lives within us all seeking fertile ground and opportunity to express itself, be received, honored and celebrated.

Wakan seeks to do its part to help heal the sacred hoop and create a win-win, sustainable world for "all our relations" with peace in our hearts, our families, our larger communties and for future generations.

Towards that end wakan supports numerous Native American groups and causes, social justice efforts, youth oriented projects and artistic endeavors that bring forth beauty and spirit. We support the sovereignty struggles of Native Peoples to survive and flourish, to protect their sacred sites and their freedom of religion. Wakan also supports efforts to heal racism, prejudice and discrimination, envoronmental protection and sustainable living. Contributions are welcome and fully tax-detductable.

Wakan also provides an on-line community forum for its members to share ideas, personal thoughts, needs, resources, events, poems and prayers. See announcement section for dates of monthly drum and prayer meetings and quarterly retreats for solstice and equinox gatherings.
