As a child I lived in a magic world of invisible presences and animal friends. My adult self wondered if that world existed anywhere outside my mind until, 7 years ago, I went to Mexico with Tomas Pinkson to work with the Huichols and heard Tatewari the Fire God speak. Here were people who spoke with the Gods and Goddesses and who cherished and nourished the ancient traditions of nature based spirituality. This is the world whose magic and wonder I have been invited to share in my photographs. I continue to visit my Huichol family as often as possible. They are my friends and teachers, from the youngest child to my grandmother Dona Manuela. Dona Guadalupe, my other grandmother, continues to guide me on my shamanic path from the land of the ancestors. One of my favorite pastimes when I am in Tepic is to play school with the children, teaching them a little English and helping them with their homework in exchange for the many gifts of hospitality and laughter they give me. The cards sell for $3.75 each, including California sales tax. Each card is handmade and has an original photo one the front, suitable for framing. They are blank inside. Each has a narrative on the back explaining the story of the photograph. They come enclosed in a glycine envelope that protects them. Matted and framed photographic enlargements are also available. 10% of all profits from the sale of these photographs goes back to the Huichols, with gratitude.
