RAPTOR FEATHERS MUVIERIRaptors, for Huichols as for many Indigenous peoples, are sacred birds who act as messengers between mankind and the spirit world. Their feathers are frequently used in ceremonies. A gringo marakame (shaman) wears hawk feathers on his hat while he prays to Spirit using his muvieri (prayer arrows) and the tail of Kayumari, the Deer Spirit. He also carries a God's eye that will be offered to the Gods at a sacred pilgrimage site. |
