EL SOMBRERO

Even the very youngest Huichols wear their vestuarios, ceremonial clothing, when on the annual pilgrimage to Wiricuta, the high desert land of the Gods. The plain white cotton cloth is embroidered by hand with figures of sacred plants and animals, and the clothing is neither changed nor washed during the whole of the pilgrimage, which may last more then a week.
