THE PRINCIPLES OF
ATTITUDINAL HEAliNG
Introduction
Attitudinal healing is a cognitive behavioral approach to shift attention from the head to the heart. It is a non-denominational practical methodology drawn from the Course of Miracles and put into practice at the Center for Attitudinal Healing in Sausalito founded by Dr. Gerry Jampolsky working with children and families facing life-threatening illness. From an initial small group, the Center's program has expanded to over 120 Centers around the world.

Attitudinal healing is a process based on mindfulness in the moment and making a conscious choice about the choice of your attention; what you put it into will grow more powerful. Do you want to experience inner peace, attitudinal healing's definition of health, feeling joined and connected with the infinite presence of love, or do you want to experience the pain and suffering of feeling separate and alone? The choice is made every instant, usually unconsciously. Attitudinal healing brings this choice into conscious awareness, thus empowering the individual to own both their intention, and their attention.

The Principles are based on the truth of the perennial wisdom that the central essence of our being is unconditional love. We can open to the presence of this love, or we can close our hearts plunging us into darkness. The principles are "working tools" by which to choose love and healing, using relationships as the vehicle with which to come to greater consciousness.

  1. The essence of our being is love.
  2. Health is inner peace. Healing is letting go of fear.
  3. Giving and receiving are the same.
  4. We can let go of the past and of the future.
  5. Now is the only time there is and each instant is for giving.
  6. We can learn to love ourselves and others by forgiving rather than judging.
  7. We can become love finders rather than fault finders.
  8. We can choose and direct ourselves to be peaceful inside regardless of what is happening outside.
  9. We are students and teachers to each other.
  10. We can focus on the whole of life rather than the fragments.
  11. Since love is eternal, death need not be viewed as fearful.
  12. We can always perceive ourselves and others as either extending love or giving a call for help.
